Introduction

While Calendly and Cal.com excel at standard business meetings (one-on-one video calls), Acuity Scheduling (owned by Squarespace) takes a different path. It is built for service professionals—therapists, tutors, personal trainers, massage clinics, and salons.

Acuity doesn’t just ask “when are you free?”. It handles the intake process, tracks historical customer data, handles recurring packages, and processes payments. It is an operations manager in a browser.

Key Features

1. In-Depth Client Intake Forms

Acuity’s questionnaire builder is incredibly robust. Before a client can finalize their booking, you can require them to fill out detailed medical questionnaires, sign liability waivers, or upload files. The answers are attached permanently to their client profile.

2. Service Packages and Subscriptions

Unlike generic scheduling apps that only process a single payment via Stripe, Acuity allows you to sell:

  • Packages: e.g., Buy 5 sessions, get the 6th free.
  • Gift Certificates: Clients can buy vouchers and redeem them during booking.
  • Subscriptions: Charge clients monthly for a set number of appointments.

3. Granular Availability and Calendar Sync

Acuity excels at scheduling specific resources. If your clinic has 3 rooms and 2 machines, Acuity can make sure you never double-book a room or a machine, even if multiple staff members are free.

Interface and Design

If there is a weakness to Acuity, it is its user interface. The admin control panel has a distinct “web app from 2015” aesthetic. It is text-heavy, navigation can be confusing, and the setup process requires clicking through multiple deep menus.

For the client, the booking interface is clean, functional, and highly customizable to match your brand colors, but it lacks the modern, fluid transitions of newer scheduling interfaces.

Pricing Analysis

Following its acquisition by Squarespace, Acuity’s pricing plans are billed monthly (per account, rather than per user):

  • Emerging Plan: $16/month (1 location/staff member, includes payments and custom forms).
  • Growing Plan: $27/month (up to 6 locations/staff members, adds SMS reminders and packages).
  • Powerhouse Plan: $49/month (up to 36 locations/staff members, adds multiple time zones and BAA for HIPAA compliance).

Schedulizer Verdict

If you run a client-facing, service-based business where you charge for your time, Acuity Scheduling is the most complete tool on the market. It bridges the gap between calendar scheduling and CRM/billing software.

However, if you are looking for a simple tool to schedule internal Zoom meetings or team sales calls, Acuity is unnecessarily complex and expensive. You would be far better served by Calendly or Cal.com.
